Yoga guru Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurveda Ltd. launched a self-proclaimed cure for novel coronavirus in the form of Coronil on Tuesday in a press conference. Within hours of launching, the Union Ministry of AYUSH asked the firm to stop advertising till the drug and claims about it are examined. In a recent update, the Government of Rajasthan has announced filing a case against Ramdev Baba and Patanjali for making fraud claims. On being questioned about seeking approval for clinical trials, Ramdev claimed to have “received approvals from ICMR’s Clinical Trial Registry (CTRI) and conducted study with NIMS Jaipur”.
The Ministry of AYUSH has clarified that it is NOT AWARE about any such medicine and has thus, asked Patanjali to provide at the earliest details of the medicines, their composition, the results of its research, the hospitals where the research was conducted, whether the company had a clearance from the Institutional Ethics Committee and whether it had registered for the clinical trials.
Facts of the claim and details of the stated scientific study are not known to the ministry,-AYUSH Ministry
The ministry has also asked the Uttarakhand licensing authority to provide copies of the license and product approval details of the Ayurvedic medicines and directed Patanjali to stop publicising medicine until the issue is examined with immediate effect.

With certain clarification on what exactly Coronil is, there are a number of questions that are still unanswered that both Ramdev Baba and the Government need to address.
Ques 1. Is there some miscommunication between AYUSH Ministry and Patanjali?
Ques 2. A sample size of 280 is enough to claim 100% accuracy of medicine? In allopathy the usual size of the testing sample is 30000, and still medicines are not approved.
Ques 3. Coronil is a cure for COVID-19 or an Immunity increasing drug? The composition of the medicine indicates increasing immunity which has already been recommended AYUSH. Also, other branches of medicine like Allopathy, Homeopathy, Unani have come up with immunity boosters. Then what makes Coronil different?
Ques 4. If Coronil is an actual cure for coronavirus, why is it not available on all medical stores, and only on Patanjali Stores? (since other Patanjali products are available on normal kirana stores too)
Ques 5. Is the medicine safe to treat COVID-19 positive patients of all stages-from mild to the most severe on ventilator?
Ques 6. Is Coronil safe for pregnant women, lactating mothers, children and old age people who fall beyond the specified age category in the pack?
Ques 7. Manufacturing Coronil is a mere business strategy seeking profit misleading people in the harsh COVID-19 crisis?
Ques 8. If the Government approves the medicine, what policy will it create to make the medicine available to all (even for those who cannot afford to buy the INR 600/- pack)?
Ques 9. There’s no proof of any official demand of Coronil from other nations. Then why did Ramdev Baba claim he has many advance orders in hand?
Ques 10. Will government take any action against Ramdev Baba for directly launching the product on national television without informing the concerned authorities?
