NIA arrests Ex-Sarpanch of Kashmir for terror links

The National Investigation Agency of India (NIA) has formally arrested Tariq Ahmed Mir, a former BJP Sarpanch from Maldara in Shopian for having links with DSP Davindar Singh and Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists. Davindar Singh is the same person who was arrested on January 11, 2020 along with two militants and was allegedly driving them out of the Kashmir valley. The case was later handed over to NIA.

According to intelligence sources, Mir was involved in providing logistical support and arms to Hizbul terrorists. It is believed that Mir developed terror links since July 2016, soon after the killing of Hizbul commander Burhan Wani. He is also found to have links with arms suppliers in Uri, Baramulla, and Pakistan occupied Kashmir. During investigation, he has confessed of having known Naveen Babu- Hizbul commander, but has denied any links with DSP.

Lookout for Mir began soon after DSP and the two arrested terrorists revealed links with the Sarpanch. He managed to escape from Shopian in February 2020 when his house was raided NIA. However, in a couple of days he was arrested from his second wife’s house in Baramulla, who happens to be a Pakistani.

Going intelligence sources, Mir was also involved in drug mafia operating in the Valley and was known for importing heroin and brown sugar from Pakistani infiltrators through LoC.

This arrest has come out as a big blow to a party propagated Hindutva agenda, as it is believed that associates of the party are not involved in anti-national activities, and are considered to be the saviors of the nation. The party has been highly trolled over twitter. However, no official comment has come from any party spokesperson.
